Lamentations 3:22-23 says,
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
I like to remind you of verses like this one because I believe that understanding the faithfulness of God is foundational to the Christian faith. There are a lot of things we might doubt from time to time, but to doubt that God will keep His promises strikes at the very heart of what faith is. Either God is faithful and will do all that He’s said, or He is not. If He’s not, then we have no reason to believe anything He’s said. You might as well just go home, deny the faith and do your best to make as much out of this present, pitiful life as you possibly can, because nothing else really matters after that.
But if God is faithful . . . and oh! I’ve found that He is! If God is faithful, then we have every reason to hope and sing and rejoice and pray and believe and keep on keeping trusting Him even when things look dark and hope seems stretched beyond the breaking point! Because if God is a God Who keeps His Word and does all He’s promised to do in Jesus, then we have nothing to fear and everything to live for! “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ!” (Php 1:6)
So as you worship this morning, make it your goal to have your eyes fixed firmly on this all-faithful God! Open your ears to His promises as they are proclaimed. Make your heart listen. And as you listen, be intentional about believing what he says. Tell yourself to rejoice in His grace. Set your mind with a readiness to see Him as He is revealed in Scripture. And when He reveals Himself, let that sight of His sovereign faithfulness give you a deep confidence in Him as a faithful God Who keeps His Word and will do everything He’s promised to do in Jesus.
