But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,
and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth
Acts 1:8
Many of you have enjoyed the “Dispatches from the Front” missions videos we have shown from time to time on Sunday nights. In these, Tim Keesee travels the world to show how the Gospel is reaching the darkest places on earth with the life-giving message of Christ. I love these videos! They provoke me to pray and support those who sacrifice so much to go out with the good news of Jesus to the world. That’s why I was excited to see the recent release of a new series called “Luke’s Dispatches.” In these new episodes, Keesee shows how the Gospel that originally spread from Jerusalem is still going out and making an impact in these same parts of the world where it began. Each episode begins by looking at what happened in Acts and then fast-forwarding to see the work God is still doing in those same regions today.
Tonight at 6 PM, we will begin a three session study of what God has done and is doing called “Acts Then and Now.” Each week we’ll do the following
1. I will teach a 20-30 minute lesson covering the relevant section of Acts
2. We will then watch the corresponding episode of “Luke’s Dispatches” that cover the work of God in that same region.
3. We will end our time with discussion and prayer for the Gospel’s spread
The schedule for these classes will be as follows:
Episode #1 – “Just as Dawn Was Breaking” – Tonight (2/16) at 6 PM — We will learn how the Gospel spread throughout Jerusalem bringing persecution. You can prepare by reading Acts 1-2, 6-7.
Episode #2 – “A Kingdom Without Borders” – Sunday, 3/8 at 6 PM — We’ll watch as the Gospel takes hold in Caesarea and Tyre (Modern Lebanon). Read Acts 8-10 to be ready.
Episode #3 – “City on a Hill” – Sunday 3/22 at 6 PM. — We’ll see how the Gospel found it’s way into modern Turkey (the ancient cities of Ephesus and Miletus). Found in Acts 19-20
Hope to see you there!
