Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit,
fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you
at the revelation of Jesus Christ. – 1 Peter 1:13
Here we go! A fresh new year with all it’s challenges and opportunities. What will you do with it? Will you grow in your love and enjoyment of Christ and His people? Will you be part of helping others find joy in Him? Will the light of your life lead these little ones more deeply into His grace? Or will you waste your life and this precious time God has given you?
Rockport, will this be a year we take hold of God’s rich promises and see what He is able to do among us? Or will we be content to just “have church” once a week, with a few D-Group and other meetings thrown in?
Is this the year we’ll get serious about learning to love each other with Christ’s love; forgive one another with His mercy; and set our hearts to worship and serve Him together as we share Him with our community? Or will we spend another three-hundred-sixty-five days with no real and lasting change coming into our lives and no genuine growth in our church?
My prayer and my challenge for us as begin 2025 together is that we will make this a year of consciously pursuing Christ-centered lives together. But that won’t happen by accident! No one ever stumbled into God-centeredness! That’s why Peter urges us to prepare our minds for action and fix our hope on Jesus. It is only when God’s people make it their conscious goal to live in a way that is pleasing to Him, that they really begin to do so!
For that reason, I hope you will make it your priority to pray regularly with the members of this body and to read your Bible faithfully as you serve Him in love. There’s no better way to start your year than to make a priority of seeking God daily along with your brothers and sisters in Christ’s church.
