“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.”
1 Thessalonians 2:13
One of the great joys I have experienced several times in ministry is the joy of meeting brothers and sisters from other cultures, nations, or just different parts of the country and instantly feeling that we truly are one in Christ. That was certainly our experience last weekend when Amy and I joined Rick and Aaron for a Psalm 67 Mission Team trip to the US-Mexico Border in Mission Texas. Our purpose in going was to lead a conference on Biblical Eldership at Conway Avenue Baptist Church in Mission. I know that may not sound like a very exciting topic, but it truly was a joy to be there and to help this precious church better understand the Bible’s teaching on this important topic as they seek to move toward a more biblical ordering of their church.
From the first meeting it became evident that this was a sweet church with many people who truly want to do what God’s word says. Their questions were humble and insightful. They continually expressed their desire to be in submission to God’s word for his glory. It was clear that their pastor has been teaching them faithfully to revere and follow God’s Word. And speaking of the pastor, Amy and I both felt an instant kinship with Pastor Johnny Mora and his wife Rosie. It was truly a joy to get to know them, to fellowship with them, to help them teach their people and to pray with them.
As an added bonus, we were able to meet our friends Irian Hernendez and Billy Jackson for lunch while we were there and get caught up on what the Lord is doing for them. Please continue to keep them and their families in your prayers as they serve Christ at Rio Grande Bible Institute.
God’s faithfulness is evident everywhere we go. With love….
Pastor Scott
