Unless the Lord builds the house, those who built it labor in vain!
Psalm 127:1a

As we consider the possibility of moving to a larger facility, one of the questions that’s been asked is, “How will such a move change Rockport?” I certainly understand the question. By God’s grace we have been given something in this church that is precious and worth preserving. So how can we take a chance on changing the things that make Rockport, “Rockport.”

As I’ve prayed about this, I am reminded that what makes our church what it is, is our character and our commitments, not our building. Our character is formed by our Christ-centered theology and practice which are driven by our commitment to knowing and applying biblical truth. Growing out of that character are our core values: (1) Truth that Transforms our lives through expositional preaching/teaching; (2) Biblical Worship that centers us on Jesus; (3) Genuine Fellowship that unites us around Jesus and His faithful love; (4) Prayer that expresses our dependance on Jesus; and (5) the Gospel Mission that shapes our lives around making Jesus known to others.

These are the things that must not change. Other things will change, and sometimes need to. But these things cannot be allowed to change. (And as long as Kyle, Warren and I are pastors, we have no intention of letting them change.) What will change are things like our location, our building, our opportunities to welcome others into our fellowship, our ability to train leaders and to develop new ministries to reach the lost around us. If we are faithful to do the things God has called us to do, we expect to grow as He adds to his people. Will that bring challenges? Yes. Can it bring difficulties? Yes. But is it worth it? If we are faithful and God is the one who gives the growth, yes! So join me in praying, “Lord, Your will be done”

Looking forward to what God will do as we continue to put our hope in Him
