Where’s Everybody Else?

Depending on which service you attend this morning, things may look a little different than usual. As most of you know, a portion of our congregation is away this weekend at our Tenth Annual “Rockport Family Camp” at Bate’s Creek near Potosi, MO. I say “a portion” since this year’s camp will involve a lot fewer of us than previous years, largely due to concerns over the coronavirus. So while past years have seen more than 200 attend from Rockport and our sister church, Heritage of Grace of Dupo, IL, this year’s camp will be much smaller. Nevertheless, those of us who will be gone this weekend will miss those of you who remain here and will look forward to seeing you again next Sunday.

This year’s camp theme is “God is Our Refuge” from Psalm 46:1. There will be four messages focused around this theme: “God’s nearness” by Warren Kesselring, “God’s Love” by Ryan Hunsaker, “Christ Our Refuge” by Geoff Ingrum, and “God’s Faithfulness” by Scott Lee. Nevin Koranda will be preaching at both services here at Rockport. All these messages will be available later this week on our SermonAudio page (sermonaudio.com/rockportbaptist).

And then, just so you know, we are taking precautions for the health and safety of those attending Family Camp this year. The camp itself has been shortened from our usual four day schedule. Almost all of our activities, including meals, will be held outdoors. Many participants will be commuting from home rather than staying together in the cabins, which makes it possible for us to limit cabins to those who already live together in family groups, or regularly spend time together as it is.
So pray for us as we gather. Ask the Lord to make it a significant event in the life of each person who attends. Ask him to open the hearts of our children to Gospel truth and to be present with us all. We’ll be praying for you all as well.

Rejoicing in Him whether here or there!

Pastor Scott Lee
