“God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord. ”
1 Corinthians 1:9

As you gather for worship this morning, Amy and I will be in Arkansas spending time with each of our mothers. The recent illness of Amy’s mom has reminded me how precious these times are and how important it is to take the time to be with them while we still can. I think most of us would agree that our mothers are one of God’s faithful gifts to us for which we ought to be grateful.
I’ve been thinking a lot about God’s faithfulness lately. There are so many things happening today that cause concern as we think about our children and the future of this culture. And yet, whether we are in the best of times or the worst of times (or a little of both), one fact remains – Our God is faithful! He is faithful to keep His promises. He is faithful to honor His Word. He is faithful to hear our prayers. He is faithful to complete the good work He began in us through Christ. He is faithful! He is faithful in good times. He is faithful in bad times. He is faithful when we are sick and when we feel well. He is faithful when we have sinned to bring us back in repentance. And when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He is faithful even when we are not! He remains unchanged even when we fail. And He is faithful to comfort us with His presence when we turn and cry out to Him, seeking His help. Our God is faithful! And that, above all, is our confidence no matter what may be happening!

So let me close this little exhortation about God’s faithfulness, by reminding you of Paul’s benediction in 1 Thess 5:23-24, which I pray you will take to heart! He writes “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”

Amen and Amen. May your rest in His faithfulness today.
