For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother,
and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 2:24

If everything went as planned this weekend, then our daughter Kim is on her honeymoon as Mrs Jason Hayden. Obviously that’s what has been on our minds lately. A wedding, as many of you know, is a lot of work. But the wedding of a child is also a time to reminisce. Let me share a few quick thoughts with you.

The first is just how quickly it all goes! I know from Kim’s perspective, this has been a long time coming. She has always wanted to serve the Lord through marriage, but had to wait on God’s timing for the right man came along. But from my side of things, where did it all go? I still remember that little blue-eyed, blonde-haired girl who used to crawl up in my lap and cuddle with me. Parents, treasure those moments! They come and go so fast!

Second, it has made me grateful for all of you God has used in Kim’s life over the years! From her Sunday School teachers and other good friends, to all the adults who took time for her when she was young and sometimes struggled with depression. So many of you have loved her well through these years, and I am so grateful. That’s one of the benefits of a good church family! And then to watch you pitching in to help with the wedding and the reception and everything else these past few weeks. Amy and I are grateful for each one of you.

Third, I am grateful to God for His work in Jason’s life. Many of you know Jason was a student of mine when I was still teaching for Missouri Baptist University. He was not yet a Christian, but always seemed to have questions after class. We got to know one another. He even visited Rockport a few times. But then we lost touch. Until one day God saw to it that he bumped into Jonny Jackson at the gym. Jonny invited him to church. He began to come, confessed his faith in Christ, met Kim and….well I guess the rest is history.

Grateful to God for all His Faithful Providence!
